Mariska Hargitay remains a cut above the rest.
The Law and Order: Special Victims Unit star unveiled a new short hair look ahead of her Broadway debut in Every Brilliant Thing on May 26.
Sharing a joint post with hairstylist and photographer Adir Abergel on Instagram, which shows off her wavy, chin-length tresses, the hairdresser wrote, “NEW CUT FOR THE ONE AND ONLY @therealmariskahargitay BROADWAY DEBUT.”
Embracing her new stage era, Mariska commented, “Switching gears.”
While she went forward with the big chop—achieved with the use of Virtue Flourish Thickening Styling Treatment and Volumizing Primer—Mariska maintained her light brown color with subtle highlights. For the rest of her beauty routine, the My Mom Jayne director opted for a pink lip and simple eyeliner.
Although Mariska is no stranger to changing her hair up, doing so has gotten her into a bit of trouble in the past. In fact, she recently admitted that one rogue haircut nearly got her fired from Law and Order: SVU.
During the show’s third season, she famously sported an uncharacteristic pixie cut. She hadn’t asked for the style herself, but it was instead a result of a tipsy hang-out with a French hairdresser.
“He kept going,” Mariska admitted while on The Kelly Clarkson Show in November, "and I was like, ‘Well, this is gonna be a problem [with] continuity.’”

As she had been in the middle of filming an episode when the ill-fated cut happened, she called the SVU production team right away. On the phone, creator Dick Wolf told Mariska, “I’ve fired people for less.”
“He was like, ‘I hope you like the beach because you're gonna be spending a lot of time at it,’" the ER alum recalled. “Yeah, that's how he talked to me.”
Luckily, Dick didn’t let Mariska go, as she has developed a cult fanbase for her SVU character Olivia Benson over the years. And in that time, the actress has sported a bunch of different ‘dos on and off screen.
