Martha Stewart Sits Down with NBA Star Who Broke Her Toe, Blames Herself for Wearing Open-Toe Shoes

Martha Stewart is finally confronting the NBA player who broke her toe.

In May of last year, the 84-year-old bestselling author and lifestyle guru was sitting courtside at a New York Knicks game when point guard Jalen Brunson chased a ball that had gone out of bounds and subsequently ran into her.

She was wearing open-toe shoes at the time and realized almost right away that he had done serious damage to her toe. After the game, she went straight to the hospital.

Martha talked to Jalen about it on a new episode of Roommates Show, cohosted by his teammate Josh Hart and close friend Matt Hillman.

“You jumped up really fast. And I remember saying to you, ‘It’s okay.’ You had no idea that you had hurt me. I didn’t say you hurt me, but I said, ‘It’s okay.’ It wasn’t okay at all,” she recalled.

Martha continued, joking that the doctors named the break a “Stewart-Brunson fracture.”

“I have an X-ray, I’m going to leave you a picture of it. It was actually a break, so anyways, it’s better now. It took one year to heal,” she added.

Martha also told the story during a visit to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and said afterward she ran into Jalen‘s parents in the Hamptons, who thought the incident was “so funny.”

Jalen chimed in to share that his dad actually FaceTimed him upon meeting Martha to give him a chance to apologize via phone call. Later, he sent her a basketball to gift to her grandson.

Ultimately, Martha doesn’t blame the NBA All-Star, adding that it was her “fault for wearing open-toe shoes to a basketball game.”

“I look back at it as just something silly, stupid, and funny. It was stupid of me,” she reflected.

Kate Mara recently shared the story of how Martha randomly ended up at her intimate birthday party.
