La Toya Jackson and Graham King on Michael 2 possibilities after biopic

Ahead of the upcoming release of Michael, conversations around a potential sequel have already begun, with both Graham King and La Toya Jackson addressing the possibility of continuing the story. While there is no official confirmation, the idea of expanding the story beyond a single film has not been ruled out.

In a conversation with ScreenRant, King acknowledged that the idea has been explored, though nothing has been finalized. “No, I’ve definitely been thinking about some things. We’ll see. We’ll see what happens,” he said, suggesting that discussions remain at an early stage. Meanwhile, Jaafar Jackson, who portrays Michael Jackson, expressed interest in continuing the role, stating, “I absolutely do,” when asked if he would return.

La Toya Jackson offered a slightly different view when asked about future sequels, noting that the decision ultimately rests with the producers. In an interview with Variety, she said, “I am not sure if there’s gonna be a sequel. That’s up to the producers. I hear there might be but we don’t know. So, no I haven’t been contacted yet.” La Toya Jackson also addressed the absence of Janet Jackson from the film, explaining that she chose not to participate despite being approached. 

The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua, traces Michael Jackson’s rise from his early years to global stardom. Jaafar Jackson leads the cast as the pop icon, joined by Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson and Long as Katherine Jackson. Michael is set to release on April 24, 2026.
