From the Publisher:

Mighty Heroes of Olde is a father-son created Tabletop Role-Playing Game brought to you by MoMoDI – where you play as a Demigod destined to thwart the ominous Entity and its spreading Corruption! All original art by Anthony & Alexander Marc Yanis!

Mighty Heroes of Olde takes the simple jump-in-and-play 2d6 mechanics inspired by Old School Renaissance games, with the power fantasy of more modern games like Daggerheart and 5E. A perfect blend for new players and veterans alike, the game is easy to learn, but difficult to master! Below are just a few of the core game mechanics for Mighty Heroes of Olde!

Review:

The last few years it seems like we have seen a ton of OSR clones and rules lite TTRPGs. These systems feature streamlined gameplay and often lead to highly lethal games. Player Characters are typically underpowered and die often.

Publisher Momodi has turned this on its head a bit in their latest title, Mighty Heroes of Olde. Their new rules lite TTRPG features characters that are Demigods. They start out as superpowered heroes with powerful abilities. The characters start out at “max level” so to speak. There is still progression in the game, the game is designed for longer campaigns, but progression takes the form of gaining renown as well as powerful magic items rather than gaining new abilities.

You start the game with 3 ancestral abilities from your “race” or ancestry as well as 10 Calling abilities which are based on your “class” or Calling. For the most part these will be your abilities throughout the game.

Progression in the game is handled as players gain Renown, Accolades, and Divine Gifts. Renown is a measure of how much respect they have earned from mortal men. Gaining renown grants you not only roleplaying benefits, but mechanical benefits as well. “Divine Gifts” are special items that are extremely powerful and can grant you additional abilities and bonuses. Overall though you are meant to really be at max power from the beginning. And the included Oracles guide gives you a bunch of terrifying monsters to throw at these high powered heroes.

Challenges and Combat are handled with a 2d6 system that is very straightforward. Movement in combat is handled in zones rather than individual distances. And overall the combat felt very dynamic and fun. The abilities the players have feel powerful and combat was very streamlined

and simple. This led to a very pleasant combat experience that made the heroes feel strong and didn’t take forever.

The art is hand drawn and converted to digital by the game designers. It is almost exclusively character art with little background art. Although simple, I found the art to be quite charming. I think it is successful in conveying the personality and theme behind each character archetype.

Review

If you like the idea of an OSR/Rules-lite TTRPG that starts your character as a high-leveled demigod, this game is worth checking out. It does definitely feel much more simple and basic than a crunch system like D&D 5e or Pathfinder. But you get a streamlined system that plays quickly and is easy to learn.

I found the rulebook to be simple to read and the system felt very intuitive. Character sheets are self explanatory. Most players were able to grab their sheets and start playing without spending a lot of time learning the rules. The included Oracle’s guide makes it easy to start running the

game and it even comes with a short adventure or Quest called “Bloom of the Blight” which makes jumping in and trying the game super easy.

I enjoyed it a lot and I think it is worth giving it a try. If you want to check it out for yourself you can follow the kickstarter at : https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/momodi/mighty-heroes-of-olde
