An indie production company is bridging the gap between gaming and Hollywood by putting developers at the center of the adaptation process. Charred Pictures, launched by popular content creator and former video game writer Alanah Pearce, has announced an initial slate that includes film adaptations of two acclaimed indie games: Faith: The Unholy Trinity and Dead Take.

Alanah Pearce’s Charred Pictures is developing movies based on two indie games

Leading the pre-production slate is an adaptation of Faith: The Unholy Trinity, the critically acclaimed survival horror game trilogy from Airdorf Games. Pearce is going to write the screenplay. Brandon Salisbury, who is known for George A. Romero’s Resident Evil, is attached to direct. The story centers on a young priest facing demons, cult followers, and a crisis of belief during the real-world “Satanic Panic” that gripped America in the 1980s. Airdorf Games serves as executive producer on the project.

Also moving through pre-production is Dead Take, based on the 2025 horror game from Surgent Studios, the developer founded by House of the Dragon actor Abubakar Salim. Salim co-wrote the game and will co-write and co-produce the film adaptation alongside Pearce. The narrative pulls back the curtain on Hollywood’s darker side, exploring what people will sacrifice in pursuit of fame. The third project in the pipeline is Godmother, an original film written by Pearce and John Veron. Unlike the other two, this one has already completed filming.

Charred Pictures operates on a collaborative model where game developers remain integrally involved throughout the filmmaking process. Furthermore, when it comes to paying for these productions, the studio is taking an unconventional route. Instead of relying entirely on traditional Hollywood financiers, Pearce has been approaching content creators like YouTubers and Twitch streamers, who already love the games being adapted.

Moreover, Pearce brings substantial experience to the company, known for contributing to the God of War series. Her recent work includes writing on various games, directing episodes of Dark Corners and The Comic Shop, and acting credits in V/H/S Beyond and the upcoming Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 (via Variety).
