Although the show has maintained a dedicated following, the latest season finale pushed it to the top of the list, beating not only shows but also every film on the platform.

According to FlixPatrol’s data for May 7, The Rookie is #1 on the Top 10 Shows and Top 10 Overall list in the United States. The show’s Season 8 finale, titled “The Bandit,” aired on Monday, May 4, 2026. Before that, the show was circling at different ranks within the Top 10, but shot to the top spot on Wednesday.
The show has overtaken other shows, such as American Idol, The Testaments, Gary, General Hospital, Will Trent, 9-1-1, and Grey’s Anatomy. Since The Rookie is also # 1 overall, it has outperformed The Devil Wears Prada, which has been dominating streaming platforms for weeks amid the sequel’s release.
The Rookie centers on a 40-year-old John Nolan, who pursues his dream of becoming an LAPD officer following a life-changing incident. After joining the department, Nolan becomes the oldest rookie as he navigates his new job while dealing with skeptical colleagues.
Alexi Hawley created the show. He is known for producing and writing another ABC hit show, Castle, which also stars Nathan Fillion. The cast of The Rookie features Fillion as Nolan, Melissa O’Neil as Lucy, Alyssa Diaz as Angela, Eric Winter as Tim, and Richard T. Jones as Wade, among others.
The ABC series debuted in October 2018 and has since grown increasingly popular. For Season 7, the show was reportedly averaging 11.35 million viewers across all platforms, and 4.68 million was on the network alone.
Additionally, the show’s success is evident in its Rotten Tomatoes ratings, where it has a 75% user score. Meanwhile, IMDb reports an 8/10 score based on over 127K user votes. It has also received five Primetime Emmy nominations.
The Rookie Season 8 ended on a cliffhanger. Showrunner Alexi Hawley recently broke down the finale and also hinted at what’s to come in Season 9.
