PROENZA SCHOULER

Rachel Scott presented her second collection for Proenza Schouler SS27 with a more assured take on the house’s New York identity. Shown at the former Rubin Museum, once home to Barneys New York, the collection explored the freedom of dressing for a city where the boundaries between day and evening are increasingly blurred. Tailoring was softened with fluid gowns, while fitted shapes were balanced by relaxed proportions and easy styling. Red and black sequined gowns brought evening glamour, while zebra-print jacquard coats and dresses introduced a graphic element. The collection moved through black, cream, red, pale blue, green, and cobalt, with brighter shades becoming more prominent as the show progressed.

Scott focused on the relationship between structure and movement, using darts, pleats, curved stripes, and geometric peplums to define the waist without making the clothes feel restrictive—crochet and knitwear brought softness to the collection, while velvet suiting added richness and depth. Tommy Hilfiger returned to The Plaza Hotel for SS27, turning the iconic New York address into a stage for what the brand calls “Plaza Prep.” The location carried a personal significance for Hilfiger, who once lived at the hotel with his family—his signature American prep was refreshed through oversized proportions, vivid colour, and playful styling. Rugby dresses, Oxford shirts, tartan blazers, and Ivy jackets were mixed with shrunken and oversized polos, giving familiar collegiate pieces a more relaxed attitude. The collection balanced classic red, white, and navy with bright yellow and green, creating a youthful take on Americana.

The Details

Hilfiger pushed traditional prep into more unexpected territory with high-cut chino shorts, twisted denim-inspired seams, and washed Tommy Flag motifs across suede, silk-cashmere, and oversized totes. Accessories kept the collection grounded in its collegiate and sporting references, with rounded 1990s-style skate sneakers, boat shoes, penny loafers, and leather pool slides. The styling was deliberately relaxed, with lifted polo collars, oversized shirts, and pieces that felt borrowed from different sides of the American wardrobe.
