Fans have been wondering who the upcoming James Bond will be in the next era of the spy franchise, and they might have a new favorite. Should he be chosen, the casting would show how the obvious choice can sometimes be the right one.

According to a recent report from The Guardian reporter Marina Hyde on The Rest is Entertainment podcast, Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, Frankenstein) seems to be the star with the best odds to become Bond. Hyde noted that she’s heard that Elordi is in “pole position” for the role and has slowly overtaken Callum Turner, who was previously the favorite, as the new potential man to play the role.

“I have to say — just the mere fact of me saying this means it won’t happen — but I’ve heard from a number of people that Jacob Elordi has kind of moved into pole position,” said Hyde. “Nobody has signed anything yet, which is interesting because Callum Turner is way out ahead, ” she added.

Of course, while Turner is also a great choice, Elordi has seemingly made the most sense for the role ever since he first began popping up as a rumored choice. For one, Elordi obviously fits the bill as a handsome leading man in Hollywood, having rose to superstardom as the attractive Nate in Euphoria.

On top of his looks, he also fits the bill build wise. Elordi measures in at six-foot-five, which would make him one of the tallest actors to play Bond should he get the role. Although Daniel Craig did a stellar job as James Bond, the actor was of smaller stature, and going back to a potentially taller and more physically imposing Bond could allow the franchise to showcase some different action.

Finally, there’s the most crucial part of all this: the acting. Whoever plays Bond can look the part, but playing the part is different. Thankfully, Elordi’s acting chops are just as good as his looks would be for the part. The star has already amassed a litany of high-profile roles and praise and has earned an Academy Award, three British academy Film Award, and two Golden Globe Awards nominations for his performances throughout his young career.

The actor playing Bond has yet to be chosen, but at least as it stands, it seems like Elordi is the obvious choice for many, and given his resume, sometimes the obvious choice is the best one.
