New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo has released a statement amid his comments about CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy), as well as asthma.

If you did not see, the 24-year-old NFL star was asked if he believed CTE was real during an appearance on the “Bring the Juice” podcast.

“No, it’s an excuse,” he responded. Host Frank Delana then commented he felt similarly about asthma, to which Cam responded, “That’s valid. Yes, asthma’s fake.”

Cam has now made a statement about this, writing on X, “I recently did an interview and had a lapse in judgment, which resulted in me making a tasteless joke about CTE and asthma. It was never my intention to downplay the seriousness of head injuries or asthma. I sincerely apologize to anyone that was offended by my remarks, and I assure you that I’ll be more mindful and respectful going forward. Much love !!!”

If you don’t know, CTE has been linked to contact sports and can only be diagnosed after death. It was the subject of the 2015 film Concussion starring Will Smith. It is apparently caused by repeated concussions and is characterized by long-term effects such as trouble concentrating, memory problems, and depression.

Football star Demaryius Thomas, who played for the Denver Broncos during their 2015 Super Bowl win, was diagnosed posthumously with the condition. Another former NFL star once shared he was concerned about a possibly diagnosis due to the amount of concussions he’s had.
