At NSYNC biopic was in development, at one point, and could still potentially happen if it is able to overcome some pre-production hurdles.

NSYNC is a popular boy band formed in 1995 that was comprised of Chris Kirkpatrick, Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, and JC Casez. The group went on hiatus in 2002; although, the members have occasionally reunited for various appearances and performances.

What do we know about the potential NSYNC biopic and will it ever happen?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fast & Furious producer Neal H. Moritz has been trying to get an NSYNC biopic off the ground for some time. Moritz has met with all five members of NSYNC and has shopped around the project at various studios. At one point, the project was in the screenwriting stage and Timberlake was in talks to executive produce.

The project has faced challenges, however, largely related to the sign-offs of Kirkpatrick, Timberlake, Fatone, Bass, and Casez, all of whom “share ownership in the name and each of whom is represented by a different management firm.”

The Hollywood Reporter’s article also notes, “Another [source] says the idea appealed to the group, especially in light of recent box office hits like A Complete Unknown and Bohemian Rhapsody, but they are currently having ‘internal discussions’ about other ideas and potential projects, including a documentary. The source suggests the timing feels off. For instance, there’s not a coinciding tour.”

There is the option to tell a fully fictionalized version of NSYNC’s rise without the group’s endorsement, though this would likely result in backlash from fans.

Should the movie ever come to fruition, it will reportedly “focus on the group’s success in the aftermath of its legal battle with former manager Lou Pearlman.”

At this time, no formal NSYNC biopic has been officially announced or greenlit.
