Obsession, which is continuing its theatrical run and maintaining strong box office momentum, has set yet another record. It recently took home a huge sum of money, with the amount surpassing what Avengers: Endgame made only a few weeks after its release.

Obsession surpasses Avengers: Endgame in surprising box-office category

The Curry Barker-helmed film has grossed $4.2 million at the box office on its 25th day in the theaters.

This figure is reportedly higher than what the highest-grossing domestic movies of all time made on their 25th days on the big screen. For instance, Avengers: Endgame purportedly earned $3.2 million. Meanwhile, fellow Marvel film Spider-Man: No Way Home raked in $2.4 million (via The Wrap).

Collectively, as of writing, Obsession has generated approximately $161.2 million domestically and $234.5 million globally (via Box Office Mojo).

Previously, on its fourth weekend in theaters, the supernatural psychological thriller reportedly generated $25.6 million (via OPEN). Setting the record for the biggest fourth weekend for a horror film, it surpassed 1999’s The Blair Witch Project, which at $24.3 million earlier held it.

The film, whose distribution rights were acquired at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, 2025, for around $14-15 million, marks Barker’s first theatrical release. The 26-year-old filmmaker earlier made Milk & Serial, which he released on YouTube.

In addition to directing, Barker wrote the screenplay and did the editing. Meanwhile, James Harris, Haley Nicole Johnson, Christian Mercuri, and Roman Viaris produced it. Additionally, Jason Blum, Leonora Darby, David Haring, Ruzanna Kegeyan, and Mark Lane serve as executive producers.

The story follows Bear, a music store employee. He has been infatuated with his close friend and co-worker, Nikki, for a long time but has been too shy to confess his feelings. One day, he buys a toy, the “One Wish Willow,” that promises to grant people their deepest wishes and desires. Wanting Nikki to return his feelings and love him more than anything, he successfully wishes for the same. However, he soon ends up facing the horrifying consequences of his decision.

Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette star as Bear and Nikki, respectively. The supporting cast includes Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, Andy Richter, and Haley Fitzgerald, among others.
