The ages of the main characters in Outlander is a big topic of discussion online, and with season 7, part 2 premiering on Friday (November 22) on Starz, we’re answering all of your biggest questions.

So, how old are Jamie Fraser and Claire Fraser in the fan favorite TV show!? And what exactly is their age gap!?

Outlander spans the genres of romance, science-fiction, history and adventure in one epic tale. It follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945, who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743 Scotland. When forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous young Scottish warrior, Claire’s heart is torn between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

To give you an accurate timeline of events, we’ll give you a bit of background. Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe) is born in the 1900s, and Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) is born in the 1700s, and since there’s time travel, it is often a question that fans are wondering about!

More specifically, Claire’s birthday is October 20, 1918, and Jamie’s birthday is May 1, 1721.

Season 8 kicks off in 1778-1779, meaning, Jamie is around 57 years old. Claire’s age is a little trickier, because time travel is involved! Fans will note that in the book series, Claire met Jamie in 1743, and at the time, she was 27 years old.

Fans of the series know that in 1766, Claire and Jamie are reunited after 20 years! At this point, Claire is around 50 years old. That would mean that in season 8, Claire is 61-62 years old .

As for their age gap, it’s said that Jamie is 22 years old when he meets Claire, and as we said, she is 27. So they are about 5 years age difference, despite the fact that she’s born 197 years after him!
