What popular HBO TV show has received a surprise episode?
Now, The Yogurt Shop Murders is set to return with one final chapter, giving viewers an updated look at the shocking developments that changed the investigation. An A24, Fruit Tree, and Pig Village Production will get one final 90-minute fifth episode on May 22, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max. Three weeks after the series premiered last year, the real-life case was finally solved.
The new episode, titled The End of Wondering, is directed by Margaret Brown (Descendant). The episode will chronicle the months after the documentary series debuted in August 2025, when the Austin Police Department (APD) suddenly convened a press conference to announce a break in the 34-year-old case, only three weeks after the show concluded.
In the press conference, APD cold case detective Dan Jackson revealed crucial behind-the-scenes details of the painstaking work that he and other investigators used to track down the killer of four teenage girls in Austin, Texas, in 1991.
After investigators identified the suspect using advanced DNA technology, the investigation revealed the unexpected connection to a serial killer whose crimes spanned multiple states during the 1990s. The resolution offered some relief to the family members while, at the same time, allowing the falsely accused men from the original investigation an opportunity to finally seek exoneration.
The fifth and final episode of the HBO TV show will feature participants, including Detective Jackson, alongside APD lead investigators John Jones and Paul Johnson. Moreover, the episode will also feature genetic genealogist CeCe Moore, filmmaker Claire Huie, the falsely accused suspect Forrest Welborn, the widow and daughter of the falsely accused suspect Maurice Pierce, and all four girls’ families.
