Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett discuss the prospects of Ready or Not 3

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett addressed the future of the Ready or Not franchise in an interview with Inverse, indicating that a third installment is not currently a priority. Bettinelli-Olpin stated, “I think we made this movie as a definitive end,” while acknowledging that “we also made the first movie as a definitive end.”

The sequel expands the original film’s premise by introducing a broader network of families tied to Mr. Le Bail. It builds on an unused concept from the first script. Bettinelli-Olpin explained, “There was a tag that the writers… wrote, which was a Le Bail conference that had a bunch of other families,” describing how the idea had “been percolating for a really long time.”

Ready or Not 2 continues directly after the original. Grace MacCaullay confronts a council of families and competes for the High Seat through another deadly game. The story introduces her sister Faith and outlines the cult’s rules, including limits on killing players and the consequences.

The film’s ending resolves Grace’s arc as she survives by exploiting loopholes within the established rules, ultimately dismantling the council. Gillett noted the tone of the production, recalling, “How many times do you say ‘Hail Satan!’ before it maybe is real?” and describing concerns about “accidentally call something out of the darkness.”

Despite the expanded world-building, both directors emphasized that any continuation would require a distinct concept rather than repetition. Gillett stated, “We’re not interested in repeating ourselves,” and emphasized that they focus on projects that deliver a complete and self-contained creative effort with no unused ideas left behind.

He also indicated that the world can continue, but they consider Grace’s story complete for now.
