Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayIn the journey of Reiki practice, there often comes a moment when the questions begin to deepen. At first, we may come to Reiki for healing, relaxation, or to support others. Over time, however, something shifts. Beneath the techniques, the hand positions, and the healing sessions themselves, many practitioners start to sense that Reiki is pointing toward something more profound.
Along the way, we may hear expressions such as true nature, purified self, or perfected self. These phrases can sound beautiful, but they may also feel a little mysterious. What does it actually mean to remember our true nature? And is it really possible that beneath our worries, doubts, and everyday struggles there exists a part of us that remains whole, calm, and connected to something greater?
In Reiki philosophy, true nature refers to the dimension of our being that exists beyond the identities we have constructed throughout life. As Yolanda Williams explains, it is “that aspect of us that is beyond our fears, our doubts and our worries.” It is not shaped by the roles we play or the expectations placed upon us by the world. Instead, it is the quiet presence of divine intelligence that exists within all living things – the luminous awareness that rests at the foundation of creation itself.
Recognizing Glimpses of Our True Nature
One of the comforting realizations within Reiki practice is that true nature is not something we need to achieve. It is already present within us.
Even when we are not consciously aware of it, it tends to reveal itself in small, almost ordinary ways. A spontaneous smile exchanged with a stranger. A quiet impulse to help someone who is struggling. A moment of kindness offered simply because it feels right.
These gestures may appear simple, yet they often carry a deeper resonance. As Yolanda describes, even something as small as sharing a smile can bring “this resonance, this recognition of kindness.”
In those brief moments, we are touching something authentic within ourselves. We might not label it as such, but what we are experiencing is a glimpse of our true nature expressing itself.

The Layers of Identity We Carry
At the same time, life gradually shapes the way we see ourselves. From an early age we begin absorbing messages about who we are supposed to be. Family influences, cultural expectations, life experiences, and personal challenges all contribute to the identity we develop over time.
Bit by bit, these influences create layers of belief about who we are. The roles we take on and the stories we repeat about ourselves can become so familiar that they begin to feel inseparable from our sense of self.
Yet beneath all of these layers, our true nature remains.
This is often where Reiki practice begins to reveal its deeper value. Through regular self-treatment, meditation, and reflection on the Reiki principles, practitioners often notice subtle shifts in awareness. Reactions that once felt automatic begin to stand out. Emotional triggers become easier to recognize. Situations that once provoked an immediate response may now invite a moment of pause.
In that pause, observation begins.
We may start asking questions such as: Why did that affect me so strongly? Where did this belief originate? Why do I respond this way?
At first, there can be a natural tendency to defend these patterns. After all, our experiences shaped them, and in many cases they helped us navigate difficult moments in life. But as the practice deepens, something begins to soften. Instead of defending every reaction, we become more willing to simply observe.
And in that observation, compassion often begins to emerge.
“Our true nature really is that aspect of us that is beyond our fears, our doubts and our worries.”
Reiki as a Practice of Awareness
For many practitioners, Reiki gradually becomes much more than a technique for relaxation or stress relief. With consistent practice, it often opens the door to deeper self-awareness.
Unexpected insights may arise. Emotions that were previously buried can surface. Memories may return with a new perspective, offering understanding that was not available before.
Rather than simply easing symptoms of stress, Reiki sometimes illuminates the underlying patterns that created those experiences in the first place.
This shift in awareness often changes the way practitioners view the Reiki system itself.

The Teachings Within the Reiki System
As understanding deepens, practitioners often begin to recognize that every aspect of the Reiki system carries meaning beyond its surface form.
The Reiki principles, for example, are sometimes first introduced as simple affirmations for daily life: “Just for today, do not anger,” and “Just for today, do not worry.” At first they may sound like ideals that are difficult – perhaps even impossible – to achieve.
Over time, however, their meaning often begins to unfold differently. Rather than demanding perfection, the principles gently invite us to notice our inner experience. When anger or worry arises, the practice is not to deny those feelings, but to observe them with awareness and compassion.
The Reiki symbols can also reveal deeper layers as our practice evolves. Many practitioners initially learn them as tools used during sessions. Yet with time, they can also be understood as reminders – mirrors, even – reflecting qualities that already exist within consciousness itself: compassion, clarity of mind, and the recognition that separation is not as solid as it may appear.
Gradually, Reiki begins to feel less like something we do and more like something we live.
Bringing Reiki Into Everyday Life
One of the most beautiful aspects of Reiki practice is how naturally it extends into everyday life.
A difficult conversation with a colleague. A stressful moment in traffic. An unexpected emotional reaction during a conversation. Situations like these can suddenly become opportunities for awareness.
Instead of reacting immediately, there may be a brief moment of recognition: I have a choice here.
As Yolanda points out, this awareness reveals that “there’s another part of our expression that has some understanding and isn’t attached to the fear or the worry.”
Even the way we speak to ourselves can begin to shift. Negative self-talk that once went unnoticed may now be met with patience and understanding. Over time, these small moments of awareness begin to influence the way we relate to others, how we communicate, and how we move through challenges.
Living Reiki as a Practitioner
For Reiki practitioners, this growing awareness also brings a deeper sense of responsibility. Healing does not happen only during a session when hands are placed on someone’s body.
Our thoughts, emotions, and intentions are continually influencing the energetic environment around us. Every interaction carries a subtle impact. The way we greet someone, the patience we bring to a conversation, the compassion we extend – even in silent moments – creates ripples within the collective field.
When practitioners cultivate kindness, clarity, and compassion within themselves, these qualities naturally radiate outward. In this sense, Reiki is always being shared – not only through technique but through presence.
Ultimately, the path of Reiki is not about reaching a final destination. It is an ongoing process of remembering something that has always been there.
With each moment of awareness, each act of kindness, and each return to practice, we move a little closer to recognizing the quiet truth at the heart of Reiki: our true nature is already whole, already connected, and already luminous.
And perhaps the greatest gift of Reiki is that it gently reminds us of this truth again and again, guiding us back to the light that has always been within us.
