Sarah Shahi Opens Up About Writing Sexually Explicit Chapters in Her New Book 'Life is Lifey'

Sarah Shahi is proud that her new book Life is Lifey speaks candidly about sexual education.

The 46-year-old actress talked to Us Weekly about how starring in the Netflix show Sex/Life opened a door in her life in which many women were reaching out to say they’d never experienced an orgasm, and that was something she wanted to reflect and address in her book.

“Personally, I was never promiscuous. I didn’t learn about anatomy until later on in my life, and men — and that was something that did feel very intimidating to me,” Sarah said. “After Sex/ Life, it just kind of came back full circle to me: This is human nature, and pleasure is a birthright. We’re not here to simply service, but we’re here to be serviced as well.”

On the series, which ran for two seasons from 2021 to 2023 and was based on 44 Chapters About 4 Men by BB Easton, Sarah played a struggling housewife contending with a midlife crisis that eventually reconnects her with her ex-boyfriend (Adam Demos).

Discussing the NSFW content of her book, Sarah said she felt the need to embrace it because “the minute I’m afraid to do something, that’s a signal to go ahead.”

“I really hope that people have the courage to live their lives as truthfully as they can. That’s literally what I want. I really want people to have the guts to live authentically and to not worry about what people think,” she shared.

Ultimately, The L Word alum wrote Life is Lifey to heal herself and writing it made her feel free.

“I wrote this book to heal myself. I never expected it to make the splash that it’s making. But my point in writing it is, there was so much lightness that came from me finally doing me that I would love for other people to experience that same kind of feeling,” Sarah concluded.
