Sean Penn is joining one of the most exclusive clubs in Oscars history. The 65-year-old actor now has three Academy Awards for acting as of Sunday night (March 15), making him one of only eight performers to even reach that milestone. Keep reading to find out more… Sean won his first Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in Mystic River in 2004. He then took home another Best Actor trophy for Milk in 2009. Most recently, he earned his third acting Oscar with a Best Supporting Actor win for One Battle After Another. With the victory, Sean joins a very small group of actors who have one three or more Academy Awards for acting. Notably, he skipped the show and headed to Europe to visit Ukraine, according to two people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to the New York Times. The people “did not specify what he would be doing there or where precisely within the country he would be going,” per the report. The list includes Katharine Hepburn, who holds the all-time record with four acting Oscars. Seven other performers have won three acting awards: Daniel Day-Lewis, Frances McDormand, Meryl Streep, Jack Nicholson, Ingrid Bergman, Walter Brennan, and now Sean Penn. Find out who else won during the ceremony.
