Sean Penn is receiving a heartfelt honor instead of his Best Supporting Actor Oscar after skipping the 2026 Oscars ceremony. The 65-year-old star, who won for his role in One Battle After Another on Sunday night (March 15), did not attend the star-studded evening, instead opting to head to Ukraine as part of his ongoing activism efforts. Ukrainian Railways CEO Oleksandr Pertsovskyi shared a glimpse of what Sean was doing instead, and revealed that he was awarded an “IronOscar.” Keep reading to find out more… “Sean Penn opted for the trip to [Ukraine] vs. Oscar ceremony at Dolby Theater where he was awarded his 3rd. We couldn’t leave our great friend and loyal Ukrainian Raiwlays passenger without an award. So, I have presented Sean with our IronOscar on behalf of all of us!” he wrote. The post came along with an image of the award, as well as a video of him being honored. “That’s what your presence here means. You’re missing the Oscars, so we made you this one. This is from a railcar that was damaged by the Russians. The metal survived, so it’s very special to us. It’s not golden, but it’s very real and from the bottom of our hearts,” Oleksandr said in the video to Sean. Thank you,” Sean responds. The “IronOscar” has an engraving: “This steel once carried millions of people away from war. Then a Russian missile came. We did not melt it into a weapon. We forged it into gratitude — for you. For your talent. For your courage to stand with Ukraine.” Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy added on social media: “Sean, thanks to you, we know what a true friend of Ukraine is. You have stood with Ukraine since the first day of the full-scale war. This is still true today. And we know that you will continue to stand with our country and our people.” If you didn’t know, Sean has been spending a lot of time in Ukraine and offering his assistance since Russia invaded the country in 2022. With his win for One Battle After Another, Sean has joined one of the most exclusive clubs in Oscars history.
