The Shazam! and Annabelle: Creation director lines up his next nightmare, and this one hits closer to home than anything before. David F. Sandberg just locked in a wild new horror premise at Lionsgate that sounds delightfully unhinged.

David F. Sandberg to helm Mommy’s Home for Lionsgate after directing Until Dawn

David F. Sandberg will direct the psychological horror film Mommy’s Home for Lionsgate, Variety reported. The project comes from screenwriter James Morosini, who penned the script. Sandberg previously directed Annabelle: Creation, Lights Out, and the Shazam! films for major studios. He most recently helmed the 2025 Sony horror adaptation Until Dawn, which was based on the popular video game.

The official logline describes the film’s premise in vivid terms. It follows “a young dad whose family life becomes terrifyingly unhinged when his cryogenically preserved mom is unfrozen and sent to live with him.” Additionally, Morosini has several upcoming projects as an actor. He recently starred in It’s What’s Inside for Netflix and Steve Pink’s sci-fi thriller Terrestrial.

Meanwhile, Sandberg continues to build a packed slate of genre projects across multiple studios. His other upcoming films include the sci-fi horror Below for Netflix and Atomic Monster. Furthermore, he also has A Little Slice of Hell in development at Paramount.

Notably, Mommy’s Home marks Morosini’s second feature writing credit after the 2022 dark comedy I Love My Dad. He also directed and starred in that film, thereby establishing himself as a multi-hyphenate talent.

Craig Flores, Dawn Olmstead, and Anonymous Content produce the project alongside Sandberg and Lotta Losten through their company Mångata. Executive producers include Nathan Kahane, Morosini, David Levine, Garrett Kemble, and Ryan Schwartz. Scott O’Brien and Maria Ascanio oversee the project for Lionsgate, with Dan Freedman negotiating the deal on behalf of the studio. CAA represents both Sandberg and Morosini.
