Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, the man in charge of the ongoing search for Savannah Guthrie‘s mom Nancy Guthrie, is opening up about the rumors and theories circulating online.

He has also revealed that the day after Nancy was reported missing, his own brother was in hospice and died shortly afterward, per his interview with the Daily Mail.

“People out there can get pretty ugly and mean and nasty and not have the facts,” Nanos told the outlet. “I tell my journalists, you guys need to be a little more responsible… because that’s just really nasty stuff.”

He didn’t provide any additional details regarding his family, but did say that the Guthrie family has been “nothing but cooperative.”

“Everything we’ve asked for, they’ve given us. They’re in such a state of grief. But they’re also, you know, I think they’re a little weary too, of what’s been going on and being said about them,” he said.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Sheriff’s Department confirmed some upsetting news about the gloves that supposedly contained DNA evidence.
