Andrew Garfield knows which Marvel character Emma Stone should play next.

Both Garfield and Stone starred in Marvel and Sony PicturesThe Amazing Spider-Man movies, with Garfield playing the titular Spider-Man/Peter Parker and Stone starring as Gwen Stacy. Garfield reprised his role in Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is part of the MCU, while Stone’s Stacy tragically died at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

What did Andrew Garfield say about Emma Stone and Marvel?

Per Hits Radio, Garfield was asked if he thought Stone should play a live-action Spider-Gwen for some sort of Marvel project.

“Yeah,” Garfield said. “I mean, why not? Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos.”

Stone and Lanthimos have worked on several movies together, including 2018’s The Favourite, 2023’s Poor Things, 2024’s Kinds of Kindness, and 2025’s Begonia. The Favourite, Poor Things, and Bugonia earned Stone Oscar nominations, with her ultimately winning Best Actress for Poor Things.

Garfield continued, “Yeah, I think she could do anything. She’s such an incredible actor.”

Reflecting further on his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield said he didn’t expect there to be such an outpouring of love for his Peter Parker years after the Amazing Spider-Man movies ended.

“But also, like, all that was improvised,” he continued. “So all of that sequence was improved. The idea was, like, we just want three Spider-Men to talk about their experiences and compare notes. Let’s just do long takes and see if there’s any gold in there. And there was so much to choose from. That moment took me by surprise — like, oh, that’s really, that was sweet. And hearing it from Tobey, who was my Spider-Man growing up, it was all just sort of meta, personal, and perfect. I was very, very happy to just be a part of it, really.”
