Stephen Colbert Addresses Rumors Regarding What He'll Do After 'Late Show' Ends in May

Stephen Colbert is addressing the rumors running rampant regarding what he’ll do next after The Late Show with Stephen Colbert ends in May.

The 61-year-old late-night host talked about “internet rumors” continuing “to run wild” during the Thursday (April 23) episode of his CBS show.

He continued, “I’ve heard a lot of theories. Everything from I’m moving to CNN to I’m announcing a massive wildlife rescue program to I’m running for president of the United States. Now, here’s the thing. I can reveal right now that all of those are partially true.”

“Next year, I will be president of an animal sanctuary dedicated to caring for the rare Blitzer Wolf,” he jokingly referred to the CNN anchor. “It’s a captive breeding program. Nobody tell him.”

Stephen then pivoted to another bit set-up, revealing a fake trailer for a buddy cop comedy called Uncle Cops starring him and John C. Reilly.

“It’s an hour-long network procedural drama torn straight from today’s headlines. It’s the gripping tale of two detectives who are also uncles. How can they be both? It ain’t easy, folks,” he told viewers before cueing the “exclusive first-look trailer.”

In reality, the seasoned writer and comedian will be penning the next movie in The Lord of the Rings franchise, tentatively titled: Shadow of the Past.

But there is still some time before The Late Show ends on May 21. Before that, Stephen recently announced that former President Barack Obama will be a guest on his show early next month in “his first interview from the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.”
