What Is a Smoothie?
A smoothie is a blended drink made from fruits, liquids, and sometimes add-ins like sweeteners, yogurt, or protein powder. You can keep them super simple (like this strawberry smoothie) or load them up with nutrients depending on your mood or needs.
Unlike juice, smoothies use the whole fruit, which means you’re getting all that fiber and natural goodness. And when done right, a smoothie should be thick, creamy, and perfectly balanced in flavor—not icy, watery, or overly sweet.
How to make a Strawberry Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole frozen strawberries – about 10 large/medium
- ¼ cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon almond butter – or peanut butter or nut butter of choice
- 2 teaspoons honey – plus additional to taste (optional)
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
Directions
- Place all of the ingredients in a high-powered blender: strawberries, yogurt, almond butter, honey, vanilla, and almond milk.
- Blend until smooth. Enjoy immediately or place in an airtight jar (the less air, the better) and refrigerate for up to 1 day.
Recipe Options
- For an extra burst of strawberry flavor, you could use strawberry Greek yogurt or to add extra vanilla flavor, try vanilla Greek yogurt.
- Or, if you prefer to make the strawberry smoothie without yogurt, you can simply omit it. Add a few banana slices as desired to make it creamier—or add a whole banana for a banana strawberry smoothie.
- Boost it with additional protein by adding a teaspoon of flaxseeds, chia seeds, or a scoop of your favorite protein powder.
- Add some healthy fats and extra creaminess with a scoop of avocado.
- Cut the calories by reducing the amount of nut butter and using a more moderate amount of honey.
