Rebel Wilson is facing yet another battle in her apparently endless legal wars.
As Page Six has previously reported, the producers of Wilson’s movie “The Deb” sued the “Pitch Perfect” star for defamation in 2024 after she claimed they had embezzled money and that one of them had sexually abused its star, Charlotte MacIness.
Now their lawyers claim that Wilson lied under oath and manipulated evidence in the case.
“Wilson’s misconduct is so pervasive, and so indisputably deliberate, as to infect the entirety of these proceedings, and materially impair [Ghost’s] ability to… obtain a fair trial,” the producers’ attorney said in papers filed in the case Tuesday.
Back in 2023, producer Amanda Ghost and MacInness had taken a bath together in a Sydney apartment after swimming on Bondi Beach. MacInness said that she had willingly gotten in the tub while wearing a bathing suiting to help Ghost warm up after she had a bad reaction to cold sea water.
But Wilson — who directed “The Deb” — later claimed on social media MacInness had been uncomfortable during the episode, and she also said Ghost and her producing partners Vince Holden and Gregor Cameron had taken money from movie coffers. (MacInness also sued Wilson for defamation after she claimed online that MacInness had downplayed the alleged abuse to get ahead in her career, but a judge ruled in Wilson’s favor earlier this year.)
Their attorney claims that Wilson made two attempts to convince the judge to toss their suit, and each time gave “false testimony under oath with respect to multiple material matters” and has “thereby repeatedly [committed] a fraud on the Court so as to gain an unfair advantage in the litigation.”
Among other allegations, they claim Wilson deliberately destroyed “critically relevant evidence” and manipulated or manufactured evidence.
“Wilson’s misconduct is so pervasive, and so indisputably deliberate, as to infect the entirety of these proceedings, and materially impair [Ghost’s] ability to complete discovery and obtain a fair trial,” they claim.
But on Wednesday, Wilson’s lawyer, Allyson Thompson, called the claims “yet another attempt to malign Ms. Wilson.”
“This is a hotly contested case, and this is yet another example of gamesmanship by the plaintiffs’ attempting to vilify Ms. Wilson. A robust response opposing the recent filing is in the works,” she said.
