The next entry in Universal’s The Mummy franchise, The Mummy 4, has a new release date, with the film moving up for the highly anticipated sequel.

When is The Mummy 4’s new release date?

According to a new report from Deadline, The Mummy 4 will now release on October 15, 2027, almost a full year earlier than the film’s originally planned release date. The film was originally set to release on May 19, 2028, but that date will now be for something else, presumably.

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, the two stars of the original franchise, are set to return to their roles, according to Deadline. The pair were both said to be in talks to return to the franchise, but now it is official. Fraser will reprise his role as Rick O’Connell, while Weisz reprises her role as Evelyn Carnahan.

The Mummy 4 will be directed by Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. The film is written by the pair alongside David Coggeshall. No official word on whether other cast members are set to return has been made as of now.

It is worth noting that this won’t be the only mummy-related movie audiences will soon have a chance to see, as Lee Cronin is also working on his own mummy movie, produced by Jason Blum and James Wan, that arrives next spring from Warner Bros. Pictures. The cast of that film includes Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Verónica Falcón, and May Calamawy.

Originally released in 1999, The Mummy was followed by two sequels: 2001’s The Mummy Returns and 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Fraser, Weisz, John Hannah, and Arnold Vosloo all returned for The Mummy Returns, while only Fraser and Hannah did for Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Maria Bello played Evelyn in that movie instead of Weisz.
