Batman fans who have been waiting with bated breath for a season 2 of The Penguin may be in luck, as a new development may point to Colin Farrell‘s iconic villain returning to TV soon. Two years after its conclusion on HBO Max, the possibility of a renewal now appears stronger.

What is the update on The Penguin Season 2?

While almost everyone involved with The Penguin has said it would get a continuation, there has been no official announcement regarding it. The WGA (Writers Guild of America) website has updated its listing for The Penguin, adding a Season 2 field.

According to the WGA listing, season 2 of The Penguin will see Lauren LeFranc return as showrunner and executive producer. In addition to that, the listing also reveals that Semi Chellas will serve as consulting producer on the show. It should be noted that this isn’t a confirmation of the series getting a renewal, as it could be an error. The listing for season 2 shows a 2025-2026 date range, which is odd since the series won’t premiere during that calendar year. However, it likely points to an official announcement from DC Studios and HBO for The Penguin season 2 soon.

Colin Farrell will reprise the role of Oz Cobb in Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part 2, which releases in 2027. Details on the upcoming sequel are sparse, save for its exciting setting, so it remains to be seen how Cobb’s role will continue in a potential Penguin continuation. As for what to expect from season 2, comments from one of the show’s stars suggest the appearance of more popular Batman villains.

The first season of The Penguin was a critical and commercial success, receiving 24 Primetime Emmy nominations.

The Penguin season 1 can be streamed on HBO Max. The Batman Part 2 is scheduled to release on October 1, 2027.
