The Pitt is set to make its debut on January 9, 2025, and ahead of its premiere on Max, the medical drama about the emergency room of a Pittsburgh Trauma hospital has received some mixed reviews.

What are The Pitt reviews saying?

Early reviews for the series have begun to roll in, with many mixed reactions to the Max drama. The Hollywood Reporter’s Daniel Fienberg called the series an “effective” drama, and said that it “builds its bigger storylines deftly, climaxing with a perfect storm of emotional beats in an eighth episode that generates tears that feel far more earned than I would have predicted.”

Elsewhere, Collider’s Maggie Boccella found the series not too interesting, saying it “seems far more suited to the binge model” vs. a traditional episodic release that Max is doing. The review also likened The Pitt to ER, a comparison that has been made often and even led to a lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery.

In another review, TVLine’s Ryan Schwartz said the show isn’t “derivative” of ER, and instead “is the first medical drama since ER to prioritize medicine over melodrama.” Schwartz was also a fan of the series, saying it “it may just be TV’s best, most authentic medical drama since the one that made Noah Wyle a star.”

The InSneider’s Jeff Sneider was also a big fan of the series, saying he isn’t usually a fan of medical dramas, but that he “loved” the new series, which he describes as “ER meets 24.”

The Pitt is set to make its premiere on Max on January 9, 2025, with a two-episode premiere. New episodes of the series will then release weekly on the streaming service.

Not a medical drama guy. Was too young to watch ER. But I LOVED Noah Wyle's new Max series THE PITT, which is like ER meets 24. It follows one 15-hour shift that unfolds over 15 episodes. Breakneck pacing. Great cast. Strong writing. Tons of gore. Highly recommended. pic.twitter.com/8qmXlsIr8f
