During Captain America: Civil War’s 10th anniversary celebration, the film’s directors, the Russo Brothers, answered whether they’re Team Captain America or Team Iron Man. After a decade of uncertainty, the filmmakers finally revealed their stance.

Joe and Anthony Russo reveal if they’re team Captain America in Civil War

Captain America: Civil War debuted in theaters on May 6, 2016, splitting the Marvel fan base into two teams. While some have stood by the First Avenger for a decade, others have sided with Iron Man’s push for superhero accountability. Meanwhile, one question has lingered in nearly every fan’s mind since: Where do the Russo Brothers stand?

On May 6, 2026, while celebrating the film’s 10th anniversary, the host asked Anthony and Joe Russo which team they are on. Joe answered first, saying, “At the end of the day, it’s like, are you Team Institution? Or are you Team Rebel?”

“So, I think I’m Team Rebel,” Joe revealed.

The host then asked Anthony, who simply said, “I’m wearing my colors,” as he pointed to the pocket square in his jacket’s breast pocket. At a closer look, the pocket square appears to be an American flag, indicating that he’s also on, as Joe put it, Team Rebel.

Captain America: Civil War was a major turning point for the MCU. The film not only kicked off Phase Three, but it also divided the Avengers. Most of the team did not reunite until Avengers: Infinity War to face Thanos. Ultimately, Tony Stark sacrificed himself in Avengers: Endgame by using the Infinity Stones to erase Thanos and his army, saving the universe.

Captain America: Civil War enjoyed both commercial and critical success. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 90% critics’ approval rating and a user rating of 89%. It went on to make $1.155 billion at the global box office against a $250 million budget.

Avengers: Endgame was initially intended to be Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans’ farewell to the MCU. However, they will be returning in this year’s highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. Evans will reprise his role, while Downey Jr. will be portraying Doctor Doom.
