Machina/The Machines Of God, the fifth album from The Smashing Pumpkins, is finally getting the release the band had always hoped for. The album, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and its follow-up Machina II/The Friends & Enemies Of Modern Music will be reissued and reimagined together into one, 80-song collection. The project is scheduled for release on August 22.

Released in 2000, Machina is often thought of as The Smashing Pumpkins’ masterpiece. Lead guitarist Billy Corgan’s tea shop Madame Zuzu’s will be offering the 80-song box set exclusively, which will include a 48-track Machina as well as 32 tracks of bonus demos, outtakes, and live performances. Though the box set is the only way to hear all 80 tracks, The Smashing Pumpkins are also celebrating Machina’s 25th anniversary with other reissues, including a 2LP vinyl reissue, a limited-edition color 2LP in corona red/black, and on CD.

“It’s taken some 25 years to finally release MACHINA as we in the band had hoped it would be, and with MadameZuzus.com as the only place one can get this expansive, 80-song collection, I personally could not be more proud,” says Corgan in a press release. “MACHINA was meant as our swan song, and it was truly a labor of love to bring it to fruition, however broken we were back then. But with the band about to embark on a global tour in 2025, as well as my solo tour with The Machines of God, this set stands as a celebration and testament of will, for the songs alone have helped James, Jimmy, and I keep the faith.”

As Corgan’s statement suggests, Machina arrived as the band was about to split, with them performing a farewell show in Chicago in December of 2000. However, the split was hardly permanent, as Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain reunited later to release the album Zeitgeist in 2006. The two both played on 2024’s Aghori Mhori Mei, and will tour Europe and Asia this summer and fall.
