The current season of The Voice is different than all the other ones as this installment has been fully pre-taped, including the finale.

After the latest episode, which aired on Monday (March 23), there are 18 contestants remaining heading into next week’s Knockouts Round.

There are only 3 judges this year – Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend – and they each had 10 contestants going into the Battles. The “champions” in the season title refer to the coaches, who have all won previous seasons with their contestants.

During the two-week Battles Round, each coach pitted two of their own acts against each other and then had to make the difficult decision of who to send home. Each coach had the opportunity to steal one contestant who had been eliminated by another coach, though Kelly had the “Super Steal” thanks to winning the Triple Turn Competition. She was able to save someone from her own team or use her steal to block any other coach’s attempts.

12 artists were eliminated this round.

Six returning contestants from previous seasons will appear later on for a special “In-Season All-Star Competition” during the Knockouts Round.
