“Call Out My Name” appeared on the Weeknd’s debut EP, 2018’s My Dear Melancholy. It was co-written by the Weeknd and producer Frank Dukes. Musician Nicolas Jaar received a writing credit for the song’s use of his 2016 track “Killing Time.” Directed by Grant Singer, the song’s music video features bats bursting out of the singer.

“Call Out My Name” is far from the first song by the artist born Abel Tesfaye to join the YouTube Billions Club. Other songs to achieve the milestone include “Save Your Tears” from After Hours and “I Feel It Coming,” his 2016 hit with Daft Punk.

Last year, the Weeknd performed at Spotify’s first-ever Billions Club live show. The 45-minute live concert film is now available to view exclusively on the platform. At the show, The Weeknd treated a number of top Spotify listeners to some of the 25 songs that have reached over a billion streams, including “Can’t Feel My Face,” “Save Your Tears” and “Earned It.” The Weeknd currently has 27 songs in the Spotify Billions Club, with “In Your Eyes” and his Future collaboration “Low Life” joining the elite club this January.

This year, the Weeknd released Hurry Up Tomorrow, which featured appearances from Justice, Anitta, Travis Scott, Florence and the Machine, Future, Playboi Carti, Giorgio Moroder, and Lana Del Rey. The album is the final installment in a trilogy that includes 2020’s After Hours and 2022’s Dawn FM.

In January 2023, “Blinding Lights” became Spotify’s most-streamed song of all time. A few weeks later, the Weeknd became the first artist in Spotify history to reach 100 million monthly listeners. In March of that year he was named the “statistically most popular” musician in the world by Guinness World Records.
