Orgo-Life the new way to the future

Water beading on sun-warmed skin and sand clinging to ocean-dipped feet are just two of the sensations we look forward to each summer. And this year, those tactile experiences aren’t just on the beach, they’re showing up on our nails too. The biggest nail art trends of summer 2026 take their cues from these seasonal moments, transforming them into designs that are as visually striking as they are tempting to touch.

Natalia Mercedes, a nail artist in New York City, explains that 3D designs (like flowers, swirls, and blobs) have been growing in popularity because they’re playful—especially for the summer. “People want manicures that will match the vibe of the weather and brighten up their day,” she says.

Nail artists like Sarah Chue, who is based in Los Angeles, are also predicting a wave of manicures that will combine trends. Maximalists are layering three-dimensional swirls over metallic bases, while minimalists are opting for cat-eye manicures with raised details in a similar or matching polish.

The overall mood is bold and eye-catching, with designs that make you pause to admire your own hands. Keep reading for the summer 2026 nail art trends to keep on your radar.

Inspired by Impressionist paintings, watercolor nails put an artistic spin on the season’s texture trend as translucent polishes are swirled together for a diffused finish that feels fluid and expressive. Nail artists don’t use actual watercolors, of course, but the technique required to create this look is not far from how a painter maneuvers their brush on a canvas.

When San Sung Kim, a Korean nail artist, creates her watercolor nails, she starts with a cat-eye base; its shift is what makes the finished look more dynamic. “I have been working with velvet polishes since the beginning of my nail journey, and I always try to come up with fresh new takes,” she says, noting that colorful swirl candies inspired this manicure.

Kim then uses a nail art marker (a felt-tip pen filled with polish) to paint swirls and patches in varying widths and sizes, before taking a wet nail brush to blur her hand-painted design for a realistic watercolor look. The result is a dreamy manicure that would feel at home next to paintings by Monet and Renoir.

Some nail artists use an airbrush tool to create this blend of colors, while others, like Annie Ngo, a nail artist in Atlanta, use more unconventional methods, like dabbing on eye shadow. Ngo coats the nail with a matte primer, which creates a smooth base, before buffing eye shadow across the surface with a nail sponge. She does this with multiple colors, allowing them to overlap at the edges to create that diffused look.

Pool nails, a manicure painted to resemble soft ripples of water, were the most popular nail art trend of 2023, and they’re back this year with a dynamic update: a cat-eye base made from 3D gel. Rita Pinto, founder of nail salon Vanity Projects, suggests adding a matte topcoat over the base before applying your 3D embellishments so that they pop more.

Most nail artists use a clear gel with a thick consistency (Chue opts for the Aprés Builder Top Gelcoat) to create these designs, ranging from simple globs to translucent jelly ridges. And some nail artists use a dotting tool or a thin nail brush dipped into the thick gel to fashion their dew-like beads. If you’re creating swirls or more complex watery designs, a medium-sized nail brush may be easier to work with.

When Hailey Bieber debuted her glazed donut nails in 2022, chrome became the most requested finish at nail salons. By 2024, cat-eye had taken over—and year-round, not just during the holidays. Nail artists say the two are now sharing the spotlight via a sleek manicure that has a futuristic edge. “Cat-eye is unstoppable,” says Mercedes. “But now I’m seeing the layering of cat-eye and chrome to create these different colors that have movement and iridescence.”

The look starts with a cat-eye base for a light-shifting effect. A layer of chrome powder on top amplifies it, adding a high-shine sheen that catches the light from every angle.

Mastering this combination comes down to understanding how the shades interact, says Mercedes, especially since the final look will shift depending on the lighting and angle. For example, “putting a silver chrome over a black cat-eye will give you the deepest version of that finish,” she explains, adding that chrome over a darker base can mute some of the multidimensional tones; layering it over a neutral cat-eye allows those subtle color shifts to shine through more clearly.

A cool-toned purple cat-eye layered with warm bronze chrome creates an iridescent lilac finish that has flashes of fiery orange and bright white. For something softer, a light beige cat-eye topped with silver chrome delivers a glistening, glazed latte effect. And while silver chrome over a baby pink cat-eye reads delicate in bright light, it becomes moody as the lighting dims, revealing subtle gold and green undertones.

If there’s one design that captures the spirit of summer at a glance, it is seashell nails. Inspired by the ridges, curves, and pearlescent finishes of the tiny treasures you spot along the shoreline, this manicure brings seaside texture to life with sculpted 3D gel and luminous chrome accents.

You can choose to go all out for this look by mixing horizontal, diagonal ridges with a pearly chrome finish and gem adornments, like Naomi Yasuda, a nail artist in New York City, did for Jordyn Wood’s bachelorette mani. “We wanted a look that felt like a vacation,” says Yasuda. “I went with a soft, neutral palette to keep it timeless, then layered in 3D seashell textures to make them more fun.”

Minimalists can also get in on this beachy trend: A neutral base with soft brown horizontal stripes and thin vertical lines creates the multidimensional texture of a seashell without actually creating a 3D design.

These are not the dainty florals you’re used to seeing in the warmer months. This summer, flower nail art is bigger, glossier, and much more dimensional. Using sculpting gel, nail artists are creating 3D blooms—go-to shades include baby pink, plum, and vermillion—that rise off the nail, with petals so defined they almost look freshly plucked. The technique requires building each flower piece by piece, adding to the hyperrealistic effect.

“I roll [the sculpting gel] into a small bead, place it on the nail, and gently press [with a nail carving tool] to form each petal,” says Ngo. “It does take a little patience,” but the result is well worth it. After curing, she layers a topcoat over the design for a high-shine, glassy finish that enhances the depth and detail of each bloom.

This look—often paired with translucent bases or water-droplet accents for another seamless way to mix trends—leans fully into the season’s obsession with texture, delivering a manicure that feels equal parts delicate and statement-making.
