Tristan Thompson is seeking to gain a limited conservatorship over his younger brother Amari, 19.

The 35-year-old NBA star filed paperwork on Monday (April 27) for the conservatorship, according to People.

If you didn’t know, Tristan was granted legal guardianship of Amari, who is severely disabled, in 2023 after their mother passed away.

Per the filing, it states Amari “suffers from an intellectual disability and developmental delay and is unable to take care of his personal needs,” and is “unable to live independently and relies on” Tristan to care for him. Plus, Amari is “unable to handle any financial transactions” due to his condition.

The paperwork also states Amari “does not object to the proposed conservator” and “does not wish to contest the establishment of a conservatorship.”

Last year, Tristan‘s ex, Khloe Kardashian, opened up on her Khloe In Wonderland podcast about becoming a caretaker for Amari while Tristan is out of town often for his NBA career. He’s currently playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“Amari has LGS (Lennox-Gastaut syndrome), which is a form of epilepsy, and he is disabled,” Khloe shared. “He can’t walk or talk. He’s never been able to talk.”

“Tristan is in the NBA, and he is in a different state literally every other day or every few days, and it’s just not conducive for Amari to be on that many planes,” she said. “Amari has a handful of seizures a day with the type of epilepsy that he has.”

“So Amari stays in LA with me, and I have chosen to take care of him and be there for him, because it’s not good that he travel,” she added.

Khloe also added that she loves “having Amari be a part of my family.”
