Donald Trump drew comparisons between himself and Jesus Christ while celebrating Easter in the White House.

On Wednesday (April 1), the 79-year-old president hosted a lunch to honor what is the most holy holiday in the Christian faith, the day that Jesus rose from the dead.

During an address that lasted more than 40 minutes, Trump spoke about everything from his war in Iran and his recently paused ballroom project to his claims that men are competing in women’s sports.

While speaking about Holy Week, the seven days leading up to Easter, he reflected on Jesus’ journey and spoke about two things that he has in common with the son of God.

Trump spoke about Palm Sunday, saying that Jesus “entered Jerusalem as crowds welcomed him with praise, honoring him as a king.”

They call me king now. Do you believe it? No kings. I’m such a king, I can’t get a ballroom approved. It’s pretty amazing, right? I’m a king,” he said, shifting focus from the religious event to his own experience and recent No Kings protests.

He continued, adding, “If I was a king, we’d be doing a lot more.”

The president switched back to Jesus, saying, “Yet he had not come to take a throne, but to carry a cross, not only to reign but to save.”

Speaking about Holy Thursday, Trump reflected on Judas’ betrayal of Jesus, which ultimately led to his crucifixion and eventual rising, per the Christian faith.

Again, Trump related to Jesus, this time as someone who had also been betrayed.

“We know the feeling. Many of the people in this room know the feeling. Many of the people went through hell,” he said, seemingly alluding to the crimes he has been accused of, which he has previously described as being part of a “witch hunt.”
