Donald Trump is extending the ceasefire against Iran amid ongoing peace negotiations.

The 79-year-old President of the United States just confirmed Monday (April 21) that he will “hold” on the attack of the country of Iran for now, citing the “seriously fractured” Iranian government and requests from Pakistan as the reason.

He added that the blockade on Iranian ports will remain in place as the U.S. waits for a “unified proposal” from Iran.

“Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal,” Trump wrote in a statement on Truth Social.

“I have therefore directed our Military to continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the Ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other,” he concluded.

Trump recently stated that the U.S. military had intercepted an Iranian ship that was trying to cross the strait. He continued to threaten to escalate the war in Iran, implying that he’s previously been “Mr. Nice Guy.”

This is not the first time that the president has alluded to possible strikes against Iranian infrastructure, which could constitute a war crime. He’s taken a combative stance to questions about the nature of his threats.
