Trump Offers Blunt Response to Americans Concerned About Rising Gas Costs amid Iran War

Donald Trump was asked to weigh in on the risk that Americans will be paying a higher price at the gas station amid his ongoing military action with Iran. He did not offer the most encouraging response.

The 79-year-old president launched an attack on the country on Saturday (February 28). Since then, other countries in the Middle East have been hit by strikes as Iran retaliated and targeted United States bases.

A new report from The New York Times suggested that gas prices have already spiked by as much as 11% in the last week, raising the average cost at $3.32 a gallon.

The outlet noted that the current price is higher than it was when Trump — who campaigned on dropping gas prices and bragged about the price during his State of the Union address in late February — took office, adding that the ongoing action in Iran could see prices rise in other markets as well.

Trump addressed the concerns in a recent interview.

Speaking to Reuters, he replied, “I don’t have any concern about it” when asked about the cost of gas.

He elaborated, saying, “They’ll drop very rapidly when this is over, and if they rise, they rise, but this is far more important than having gasoline prices go up a little bit.”

It’s the latest of a few blunt responses that the president has offered to concerns about the war. He previously said that “sadly, there will be more” U.S. service members who die in Iran, adding, “That’s the way it is.”

Trump also weighed in on if citizens should be concerned about Iranian strikes on U.S. soil.

After saying that he wouldn’t be “bored” with the war, he also made a bizarre transition during a recent address.
