Donald Trump isn’t interested in speaking anything but English, and he made that very clear to an assembly of world leaders over the weekend.

The 79-year-old president addressed an array of politicians from Latin America in Miami, Fla. on Saturday (March 7) during his Shield of Americas Summit.

While speaking at the event, Trump compared himself to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, saying that the politician loves to visit Latin America.

“I’d love to get to your countries at some point,” he said. However, the Republican noted that Rubio had a “language advantage” over him as he is fluent in Spanish.

Trump added that he had no intention of learning how to speak other languages, saying as much in a shockingly blunt manner.

“I’m not learning your damn language,” the president told the assembled group. “I don’t have time. I was okay with languages but I’m not gonna spend time learning your language. That much I won’t do.”

He continued, saying, “Just give me a good interpreter.”

While Trump can’t speak Spanish or other languages, he insisted that he knew when an interpreter was good, even if he didn’t speak their language.

Citing a recent example, he said that a woman was helping him go back and forth with “a very strong person from a different part of the world.” However, he said that he knew she wasn’t good, explaining that his “long, flowing, beautiful sentence” would be translated in roughly a quarter of the time.

“I said, ‘Well, their language may be efficient, but it’s not that efficient,’ ” he said.

Trump has made some surprising statements of late, including recently insulting Americans who are concerned about the rising cost of gasoline after he started a war with Iran.
