Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation‘s underrated teen fantasy comedy from 2023 has just been added to Peacock‘s library. Beginning today, the star-studded animated movie Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, is finally available to stream on Peacock.

What do we know about DreamWorks’ Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken movie?

Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken featured the voices of Lana Condor as Ruby, Jane Fonda as a Warrior Kraken Queen, Toni Collette as Agatha, Jaboukie Young-White as Connor, Annie Murphy as Chelsea, Colman Domingo as Arthur, Sam Richardson as Brill, Blue Chapman as Sam, Will Forte as Captain Gordon, Liza Koshy as Margot, Eduardo Franco as Trevin, and more. Despite garnering a positive Popcornmeter score of 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie still had disappointing box office results, grossing only around $46 million against a budget of $70 million.

“Sweet, awkward 16-year-old Ruby Gillman is desperate to fit in at Oceanside High, but she mostly just feels invisible. She’s math-tutoring her skater-boy crush, who only seems to admire her for her fractals, and she’s prevented from hanging out with the cool kids at the beach because her over-protective supermom has forbidden Ruby from ever getting in the water. But when she breaks her mom’s #1 rule, Ruby will discover that she is a direct descendant of the warrior Kraken queens and is destined to inherit the throne from her commanding grandmother, the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas,” reads the official synopsis. “The Kraken are sworn to protect the oceans of the world against the vain, power-hungry mermaids who have been battling with the Kraken for eons. There’s one major, and immediate, problem with that: The school’s beautiful, popular new girl, Chelsea, just happens to be a mermaid. Ruby will ultimately need to embrace who she is and go big to protect those she loves most.”

The movie was directed by Academy Award nominee Kirk DeMicco, with Brian C. Brown, Elliott DiGuiseppi, and Pam Brady writing the screenplay. It was produced by Kelly Cooney Cilella, with Mike Mitchell serving as its executive producer. The creative team included head of cinematography Jon Gutman, composer Stephanie Economou, and film editor Michelle Mendenhall.
