Daredevil: Born Again actor has addressed a key question surrounding the show as anticipation builds for Season 2. The actor clarified why a familiar character will not appear in the upcoming installment, offering insight into decisions behind the scenes.

Vincent D’Onofrio confirms why Jon Bernthal’s Punisher isn’t in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

Vincent D’Onofrio confirmed that Jon Bernthal is not appearing in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 due to scheduling conflicts with other projects.

Responding to a fan on X, D’Onofrio stated, “If John wasn’t busy making his own hour long Punisher film and hangin with that insect we would have wanted him to join us in Season 2 for sure.” He added, “Yet he had a wonderful opportunity to do the other projects and i for one can’t wait to see him in those.”

Bernthal’s involvement in multiple Marvel projects, including a Disney+ Punisher special and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, keeps him out of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Charlie Cox previously explained that Bernthal’s commitments prevented him from joining the second season. These overlapping schedules made it impractical for the character to appear despite creative interest.

In Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, Bernthal reprised his role as Frank Castle and appeared in two episodes, including the finale. He fought against Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force and escaped in a post-credits scene. The story continues in the standalone Disney+ special instead of Season 2.

Marvel completed filming on the Punisher special and plans to release it later in 2026. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will arrive on July 31, 2026. Promotional material for the film features Bernthal’s character, confirming his continued presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although both projects share a New York setting, they will remain largely separate in narrative.

Marvel has already renewed Daredevil: Born Again for Season 3 and begun production. Bernthal has finished filming his current projects. His schedule may allow a return in a future season, but no confirmation has been provided.
