Perez Hilton has been making headlines following a deeply concerning livestream.
The 48-year-old celebrity blogger appeared to harm himself during a social media livestream, prompting multiple calls to police. The sheriff’s office confirmed that Perez was transported to a hospital for medical attention, and his management later issued a statement.
In recent years, Perez has spoken candidly with his followers about anxiety, depression, burnout, self-care, and his efforts to improve his overall well-being.
Take a look back at what Perez Hilton has shared over the years…

In 2011, Perez Hilton Revealed He “Started Therapy”
During an interview, Perez addressed comments online.
“When I was unhappier, what people said didn’t bother me because I could hide behind the mask of Perez. Now I feel happier than I’ve ever been in my whole life, so it still doesn’t bother me. I turned 33, the year of Christ, the double prime — it’s a powerful number and a powerful year — and I’m taking steps in the right direction in every part of my life, professionally and personally. These last 12 months of growth have been the most cathartic of my whole life. I even started therapy. I’ve been putting the work into myself, making myself better, happier, healthier, and hopefully that reflects itself in my websites and in everything else that I do,” he said to The Advocate.
Perez Hilton Spoke About Anxiety in 2022
In 2022, he uploaded a video called “Guess Who’s Back? My Anxiety!” and spoke about an anxiety attack he experienced at the gym.
Here’s what he had to say…
“My anxiety is back. I had a full-on anxiety attack today while I was working out at the gym, and I’ll get to that. But first, I just took a shower. Before that, I shaved, went to the gym, and had an awful workout. But a bad workout is better than no workout.
I have accomplished three things today.
I was really beating myself up during the workout because I kept telling my mind, ‘Shut it off. Stop.’ But my brain wasn’t cooperating. It wasn’t listening.
After class, the group fitness instructor thanked me for showing up. I told her what I was going through, and she gave me a hug. That hug was so healing.
Why am I sharing this? Well, first, because I want to release my anxiety. Second, because it’s okay not to be okay. That mantra—it’s okay not to be okay. And it’s okay to talk about not being okay.
Third, I’m talking about this because the hug that the group fitness instructor gave me after I told her I’d had an anxiety attack during class was really healing. It helped me more than I could have imagined, so thank you to her.
And for the people who matter most to you, if you can, try to check in with them in person. Then give them a hug.
And if you’re somebody I know in the real world and you need a hug—or just want one—hit me up. I’m here for you, and I’m a great hugger.
Love and light to you all.”
Perez Hilton Said He Was “Really Depressed” in 2024
In 2024, Perez shared a video about being “really depressed” and worrying about his health and “lack of self-care.”
“Today is my mother’s birthday. A beautiful day I should be looking forward to celebrating today, but I’m not. I am beyond stressed. I’m not dreading it—I don’t want to exaggerate a single thing I say—but I am sad that I am not happy.
I recently shared a video about having anxiety, but it’s more than that. I’m not angry at myself, but I feel like I’ve been blind for a bit. You can go from anxiety to depression real quick, and I have been depressed—like, really depressed—for a while now.
But, amen, I am so grateful that, for me, my depression is understandable. I think it’s situational, and I know the steps that I have to take to get better, including things that I rarely do. Like, I’m going to weigh myself today, which I don’t ever do. I mean, I’ve done it, but normally—you know, I’ve said it before—I don’t like to weigh myself. It’s just about getting in the gym and being healthy.
…
And it’s not about gaining weight—but I have. It’s about everything. It’s about the lack of self-care. Like not brushing my teeth. I do once a day—or I have been—but it’s like…doing it poorly and not caring. Not flossing. Not showering. All the things that I normally do, that you need to do, that you should do, that are important to do. I haven’t been doing them, or I haven’t been doing them well.
…
And the biggest thing that I have not been doing is sleeping. I know I need to sleep more than four hours a night, but I always have these excuses, like, ‘Oh, too much work.’ I’ve been making a big shift to video. Video is a priority, and it’s working. My hard work is paying off. My videos are getting more views. I’m getting more followers. I’m so grateful. Wow. Amazing.
But it’s an addiction. You see the results and you want to keep going, and I keep pushing myself. But I’m older now. I’m closer to 50 than I am to 40.
…
So I’ve been feeling like a big mess for a while now, and I don’t want this anymore. No more excuses.
I’m grateful that, for me, I don’t need medication. I need sleep, and I need exercise. And I have to do it.”
Perez revealed he nearly died of sepsis after being hospitalized for three weeks in March
In a video update in March 2026, Perez revealed he was hospitalized for three weeks, and nearly died of sepsis.
“My stupidity landed me in the hospital for 21 days and it was the worst and best thing that’s ever happened to me.
…
God presented himself to me. It was not a feeling. God presented himself to me. And I grew up Catholic. I was baptized, had my communion, confirmed, went to Jesuit school for 17 years. But I was never a believer until now. God presented himself to me… I don’t have to hope to believe. I know now.
…
Because I had been taking all of this medication without food for a week, I developed an ulcer. And then a perforation. And then sepsis. People die of sepsis…the sepsis just kept working and my body kept falling apart.
…
Many of you know I used to be a workaholic, and I’m still going to be a very hard worker. But I used to only sleep four to five hours a night. I am going to force myself and I am going to sleep eight hours a night going forward.
…
This experience is also going to be a positive for them because I’m ashamed of myself. I felt this need to produce for my family so much that I was doing this and that and that and not doing the little things…sure, I take my kids to this fun event and that fun event, but it’s the little things that matter… No more. I’m gonna have dinner with my kids and my mom every night from now on.
…
I hope this video can be a cautionary tale to some of you. Take medication with food. That’s very important. Take medication with food. Don’t end up like me in the hospital for 21 days.”
Perez Later Said He Had Fallen “Off the Wagon”
Two months ago, Perez said he “fell off the wagon” and was behind on his newfound spiritual practice following his hospital stint, and wasn’t doing the things he knew were good for him.
“I fell off the wagon in every sense, but I’m back.
…
I went to the gym this morning for the first time in weeks. I also went to church today for the first time in weeks, and I read my Bible today for the first time in weeks.
I was in a bit of a spiral because I was overwhelmed with our move to Miami, and I didn’t do these things that I know are good for me.
There is a direct correlation between the effort you put in at the gym and the effort you put into your faith. Reading the Bible and going to church—that’s work. And the harder you work at things, the more results and rewards you get.
I felt really good leaving the gym this morning, and I felt even better leaving church—a new church.
…
We might want things the quick way, but God has other plans.
And He is always faithful and meets us where we are.”
Most recently, Perez said he wanted to “be more faithful” and “be happier.”
Just weeks later, Perez shared another update about trying to rebuild healthy habits.
I’ve been reading the Bible, and Chapter 32 of Exodus is dark, but also a wake-up call.
Some of the Israelites lost their way and started to worship false idols, and God took them out. That’s how this chapter ends. It tells that story.
In Exodus 32:35, it says, ‘And the Lord sent a plague upon the people because they made the calf which Aaron fashioned for them.’ A calf of gold.
This was a good reminder to me to stay on track. The thing that matters most, especially after everything that I went through this year, is health. Without health, we have nothing. And I have so much. I have so much to be grateful for.
This morning, I did something different. I’ve been using the PRAY method to pray: Praise, Repent, Ask, and Yield.
I personally find it easier to pray in my car. Today, I was inspired by a video I watched not to ask for something for myself, but instead to ask that I would be able to help someone that day. And I did. Shortly after praying for that, God sent me somebody whom I was able to support, uplift, and help in a meaningful way.
That’s a reminder that when we help others, we’re helping ourselves, too. This is what I love about the Bible. These are reminders that we need, and brain-hacking and soul-nourishing that we really need. Even though making these videos and sharing them takes time, it’s one of my favorite things to do because this is helping me.
That’s all that I’m trying to do. I’m being selfish in doing this. I’m sharing my journey and helping myself. I’m not trying to do anything else other than be better, do better, be more faithful, be happier, treat those around me better, love better, learn better—everything better.
