It looks like more music stories may grace theaters soon.

More musicians are likely to get movies inspired by their careers and personal lives after a major deal between Paramount and Warner Music Group. That means legendary musicians like David Bowie and Madonna could possibly get their own music biopics sooner or later.

After the well-received reception of Michael (a musical biographical film following the early life of Michael Jackson), hopes for more music biopics are growing. The distinct sub-genre, for the past few years, has been hit or miss. But there are also movies about musicians that have emerged successfully, including Bohemian Rhapsody (about Freddie Mercury), Elvis (Elvis Presley), Rocketman (Elton John), and A Complete Unknown (Bob Dylan), among others. 

That could grow even further, as Paramount Pictures and Warner Music Group are partnering under a first-look deal to create movies based on the label’s catalog of artists. With Warner Music’s vast roster of amazing artists and songwriters, more interesting music stories could soon be brought to life.

What musician movies are likely following Warner Music Group and Paramount’s new deal?

Warner Music Group is home to many of the world’s most celebrated artists, from legendary musical acts like Bowie, Madonna, Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, Cher, and Frank Sinatra, as well as popular bands like Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, and Led Zeppelin. The partnership suggests that these musical acts, who defined a generation through their music, may soon have their stories told on the big screen.

There are countless stories to be explored. For one, the drama within Fleetwood Mac — which ultimately led to the creation of the career-defining album Rumours — could make for a compelling biopic narrative.

While biopics about modern artists aren’t expected any time soon, fans can expect at least documentaries about them, as Warner Music Group also announced a separate partnership with Netflix for future music documentaries, per Variety. Some of Warner Music Group’s contemporary recording artists include Charli xcx, Dua Lipa, Bruno Mars, Cardi B, and more. 

To say “the sky is the limit” may be an exaggeration, but with a record label that houses such big names, that saying might even be doing the Paramount and Warner Music partnership a disservice.
