Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayBosch fans have spent years hoping for one major crossover, but according to creator Michael Connelly, it may remain impossible. Despite both characters existing in the same literary universe, a live-action meeting between Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller appears far out of reach.
Why a Bosch and The Lincoln Lawyer crossover could never happen
During an appearance on the Team Deakins Podcast, Michael Connelly discussed the possibility of bringing Bosch together with The Lincoln Lawyer in live action. While the idea excites longtime readers, the author made it clear that industry realities stand in the way.
Connelly joked that achieving “world peace” might happen before “Netflix and Amazon to agree to something.” The streaming rights belong to separate platforms. As a result, creating a crossover has become highly unlikely despite the strong connection between the characters in the books.
The author explained that this challenge already affected The Lincoln Lawyer Season 1. Bosch plays an important role in the source material. As a result, the production team created a replacement character instead of using Harry Bosch directly.
Connelly also shared an unexpected behind-the-scenes detail. While filming an episode of Ballard. “You know, it was funny, last year when we were filming one episode of Ballard, but Bosch was in the episode, we were a block from where they were filming Lincoln Lawyer, and our base camps were next to each other,” he said. According to him, Titus Welliver and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo briefly met, shared a meal, and talked together, creating an off-screen crossover fans will never actually see.
For longtime readers, that reality remains disappointing because Bosch and Mickey Haller share one of Michael Connelly’s strongest character relationships.
Titus Welliver debuted as Bosch in 2015 and later returned in Bosch: Legacy, which followed the detective’s career after leaving the LAPD. The franchise has since expanded again through Ballard, which centers on Renée Ballard. Meanwhile, the prequel series Bosch: Start of Watch is also in development.
Meanwhile, Netflix confirmed that The Lincoln Lawyer Season 5 will conclude the legal drama with an adaptation of Resurrection Walk, a novel that notably includes both Bosch and Haller. Even so, Connelly’s comments suggest the long-requested crossover will stay in the books rather than reach the screen.
