  • Skill Level: Easy enough for beginners, with simple chopping and mixing required.
  • Time-Saving Tip: Buy pre-cooked bacon and a bag of pre-chopped lettuce. Swap the homemade ranch dressing for a bottle of prepared dressing.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve as a hearty lunch, pair with grilled chicken, or enjoy as a fresh side dish at BBQs.

Ingredient Tips for a BLT Salad

  • Lettuce: Crispy romaine lettuce and iceberg are the best choices for this hearty salad. Add some diced kale for extra nutrition.
  • Tomatoes: Any tomatoes work! Use halved grape tomatoes in green, orange, yellow, or red for pops of juicy color. Sundried tomatoes have less liquid than freshly chopped tomatoes and will help the salad last longer.
  • Bacon: This recipe is all about the bacon! Buy it pre-cooked and chopped up, or cook it yourself and use any variety you like.
  • Cheese: Blue cheese adds creaminess and a salty balance to the other rich ingredients. Crumbled feta, parmesan, cheddar cheese, or bocconcini (small balls of mozzarella) can also be used.
  • Dressing: Swap out the mayo for Greek yogurt. No buttermilk? No problem! Use regular milk or make it by following this quick guide.
  • Variations: Toss in diced avocados, sliced olives, jalapenos, green chiles, corn kernels, red onions, fresh chives, shredded zucchini, or carrots. Add a (drained and rinsed) can of cannellini or black beans for mild flavor and a bump in fiber and protein.

Best Way to Store BLT Salad

You may not need all of the dressing, so store any leftovers in a jar with a tight-fitting lid in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Keep extra BLT salad in a covered container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. Stir, adjust the seasonings, and enjoy it with fresh lettuce or scoop it into a wrap or pita bread pocket for a quick and energizing workday lunch.
