A new cast addition to True Detective season 5 has been announced!

On Friday (October 16), it was announced that Antonio Banderas has joined the cast of the upcoming season of the HBO crime anthology series. This casting news comes after Nicolas Cage revealed last weekend that he will be leading the new season.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, Deadline reports that the 62-year-old National Treasure actor will be playing Henry Logan while the 66-year-old Mask of Zorro actor will play Rai Garcia. The new season will be set in Jamaica Bay, New York.

Production for season 5 is scheduled to begin in 2027 with Issa López, who oversaw season four’s Night Country, returning as showrunner.

It was first reported in 2025 that Nic was in talks to lead the new season and while appearing at the 2026 New York Comic Con last weekend, he confirmed his casting.

True Detective has previously starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in season one, Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams in season two, Mahershala Ali in season three, and Jodie Foster in season four.

It was also recently confirmed that Nicolas Cage will be reprising a fan-favorite role in a new movie!
