Big Thief drummer and producer James Krivchenia is releasing a new experimental solo album. The musician worked on Performing Belief with electric bassist Sam Wilkes and double bassist and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Abrams. Below, listen to Krivchenia’s new song with Wilkes, “Probably Wizards.”

Performing Belief is out May 2 via Planet Mu. The new album incorporates gathered sounds, synthesizers, drum machines, percussion, and samples. Performing Belief follows 2022’s Blood Karaoke, which Krivchenia made by sampling YouTube videos.

On Tuesday, June 17, Krivchenia will celebrate his new album with a solo show at Brooklyn’s Elsewhere. He’ll perform at the venue’s Zone One stage.
