The Smashing Pumpkins just released their new song, “Black Stars,” for the soundtrack of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping!
The rock band – Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin – is just one of many artists contributing new, unreleased songs for the upcoming Hunger Games franchise movie.
For the new song, Smashing Pumpkins reunited with producer Butch Vig for the first time since their 1993 album Siamese Dream.
Where did “Black Stars” originate from?
According to a press release, the track’s origins date back “to a period when frontman Billy Corgan was working on a solo album and The Smashing Pumpkins received an invitation to contribute an original song to The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.”
Billy brought in Butch Vig, who helped select the song that “best complemented the world of The Hunger Games.” The track was recorded at Chaplin Studios in Los Angeles, and additional recording took place in Chicago.
“Black Stars” by The Smashing Pumpkins will be exclusively featured on the The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album), which brings together 29 different artists providing new and original music for the soundtrack. The album is set to be released on November 13, a week before the film hits theaters.
