The Concert for New York City is re-airing tonight, 25 years after it first aired.

MTV, VH1, MTV2 and Logo will all broadcast the event at 7 p.m. ET tonight, on the 25th anniversary of the historic benefit show.

When Did The Concert for New York City Originally Air?

Staged weeks after the 9/11 attacks in 2001, a major benefit was put together at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The original concert took place on October 20, 2001.

The benefit “brought together the music community, first responders, dignitaries and New Yorkers in an extraordinary demonstration of unity, generosity and resolve.” At the time, proceeds went towards Robin Hood, an anti-poverty organizations.

“The music and entertainment worlds came together that night at Madison Square Garden to honor the city’s heroic first responders as well as families that had endured unimaginable loss, and to help raise money for the thousands of low-income New Yorkers whose jobs and livelihoods disappeared overnight,” John Sykes, member of Robin Hood’s Board of Directors, shared. “Twenty-five years later, that spirit of generosity and unity is as important as ever.”
