Halloweentown is coming back!

A fifth movie in the beloved Disney Channel franchise is officially in early development, 20 years after the release of the fourth installment, Return to Halloweentown, in 2006.

Disney is working on a new movie with Lily Houghton and Ryan Koehn writing the script, according to Variety.

The upcoming project will be based on characters created by Paul Bernbaum, who wrote the original 1998 film.

Lily previously wrote the 2026 horror comedy Forbidden Fruits, starring Lili Reinhart, Lola Tung, Victoria Pedretti, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Chamberlain and Gabrielle Union.

Ryan previously worked on HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot.

While the project is still in its early stages, Variety reports that the movie would air on Disney Channel and Disney+ if it receives the official green light.

Will Kimberly J. Brown Return for Halloweentown 5?

No casting decisions have been confirmed yet, although several stars from the original movies have previously expressed interest in returning.

The original Halloweentown premiered in 1998 and starred Kimberly J. Brown as Marnie Piper, a young girl who discovers that she comes from a family of witches.

The franchise also starred Debbie Reynolds as her grandmother Aggie Cromwell, alongside Judith Hoag and Joey Zimmerman.

Kimberly returned for Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge in 2001 and Halloweentown High in 2004, but was replaced by Sara Paxton in the fourth movie, Return to Halloweentown, in 2006.

The recasting has been a longtime topic of discussion among fans, and we recently looked back at what Kimberly and the movie’s producer said about the decision.

Kimberly has also continued to celebrate the franchise over the years, recently sharing memories of working with the late Debbie Reynolds.

For now, there is no confirmed cast, plot or release date for Halloweentown 5.
