Antony Starr, known for playing the role of Homelander in the popular series The Boys, has revealed that his favorite villain is Thanos for a specific reason. Starr, whose character is also one of the biggest antagonists on TV, also asserted how he sometimes relates to the Marvel villain.

The New Zealand actor, popularly known for portraying the role of Homelander, recently disclosed that his favorite villain of all time is Thanos.

Antony Starr made the revelation as he went on to answer a question about his The Boys character in Wired’s Autocomplete Interview.

Speaking of Thanos, who is known as one of the most iconic Marvel villains of all time, Starr said, “My favorite villain, and I keep mentioning Marvel. But my favorite villain of recent memory is Thanos, because I think he was doing a horrific thing, but he had such a good philosophy behind it, about like balancing the universe. And there’s a little part of me that’s like, ‘He’s got a pretty good point, you know?'”

The Banshee star also refused to keep Homelander on the same level as Thanos, believing that his character is nowhere “near the same philosophy or intention.”

Moreover, the 50-year-old expanded on a fan’s question about how Homelander has become one of the best TV antagonists. He asserted that people find his character “compelling.”

Antony Starr went on to add, “I think one of the things that we’ve tried to do since day one is not go for the mustache twirly villain and really try to go into the backstory and explain why he is who he is, and what he is. And I think people find that compelling.” He called him “complex” and stated, “there’s more to him than just the bad guy. And I think people respond to that.”

Meanwhile, The Boys Season 5 is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, with only two episodes remaining to conclude the series.
