SPOILER ALERT – Do not read ahead if you haven’t watched the new episode of Law & Order!
Reid Scott‘s time on Law & Order has come to an end.
If you didn’t see, it was announced back in July that 48-year-old actor was leaving the NBC legal drama series after three seasons as Detective Vincent Riley.
Reid made his final appearance on Law & Order in season 26 episode 2, which aired on Thursday, October 15.

How Det. Vincent Riley written off the show
The second episode of the two-part season premiere opened with Riley leaving ADA Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy) a voicemail to call him back. He then goes to an apartment looking for potential suspect Ray Biller, who is out at a bar. Riley calls Det. Theo Walker (David Ajala) for backup before heading out to find Ray.
When Riley comes face-to-face with Ray, the officer says they need to talk, but Ray starts to flee the scene. He then turns around and shoots Riley twice in the chest. Walker eventually gets to the bar and sees his partner bleeding out on the street.
He brings Riley to the hospital, but the doctors are unable to save him, confirming that the detective has died.
Lieutenant Jessica Brady (Maura Tierney) then does everything she can to figure out who killed Riley and why. It’s an all hands-on-deck situation and eventually Detective Violet Yee (Connie Shi) discovers that Riley was looking into Ray Biller.
It’s then revealed that ADA Price put Ray’s brother Wayne Biller in jail years ago. Wayne had been killed in jail one week before Riley’s death.
It appears that Riley discovered the connection between Ray and ADA Price and the theory is seemingly confirmed when ADA Price reveals that the bar where Riley was murdered is “only three blocks away” from the attorney’s apartment.

It’s believed that Ray was looking for ADA Price, but Riley got in the way.
ADA Price is taken off the case because of his connection to the murder and DA Nick Baxter (Tony Goldwyn) takes over.
“Vince Riley was a good man. He was a good husband. He was a good father,” Baxter says during the trial. “Unfortunately, we can’t bring Vince back to life, but we can get justice for him and his family.”
By the end of the episode, Ray is convicted for Riley’s murder. In the final moments of the episode, Riley is given one final tribute as his name is added to the NYPD Wall of Honor.
“At least he went out like a hero, right?” Ryan Eggold — making his return as Vince’s brother, Matt Riley — says. “I mean, that’s gotta count for something.”
New episodes of Law & Order premiere on NBC Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT and stream the next day on Peacock.
